Hey everyone! I just bought my first home and we live in a pretty rainy area. My mom and her husband are flying in this weekend to help us build a privacy fence since they're more skilled in DIY work than my husband and I. However, unexpected thunderstorms are forecasted for the weekend. We're thinking about renting an auger and getting started on digging the holes today when it's dry, but I'm concerned about how feasible it is to pour the concrete and install the posts during the rain. My mom won't be back until July, but there's a chance of rain then too. So, how dumb would it really be to go through with the fence setup this weekend?

I’ve done my share of fence installations in the rain. It’s not a fun time, but it can turn out fine if you’re careful. Just make sure the ground isn't too muddy when digging. I've used dry concrete in the rain before, and it ends up setting just fine!
Honestly, trying to build a fence in heavy rain can be a nightmare. You'd be dealing with sagging strings, muddy tools, and working in wet clothes. It might be better to wait for a few dry days to make it easier on everyone. Just my two cents!

I've built plenty in the rain here in Seattle, and while it's not ideal, it can work if you do it right! Just don’t try to pour concrete in a torrential downpour. Light rain is manageable, and using a portable canopy can help keep you dry. Also, consider pouring dry concrete in the holes and letting the rain mix it for you—that can be a game changer!
