Why Are My Plant Stems Rotting While Roots Are Healthy?

I've noticed that the stems of several of my plants, including Alocasias, Dieffenbachias, and Aglaonemas, are rotting and mushy, but their roots seem perfectly fine. The soil doesn't feel overly wet or damp enough to be covering the stems. Any ideas on what's causing this?

It sounds like your plants might be suffering from rot, which usually happens due to being overwatered or the soil being too waterlogged. Even if the soil feels okay now, it’s possible it was too wet at some point, leading to the stem issues you're seeing. Check if the pot has proper drainage and consider letting the soil dry out a bit between waterings.

I haven't watered mine in a while either, but I've seen similar trouble before. It could be that the damage happened over time without you noticing. Sometimes a bad watering schedule can lead to rot kind of gradually. Keep an eye on them and maybe adjust your watering routine!
