I'm on the hunt for additional tools such as a skew knife, hook knife, and scorp, but I'm especially curious about palm tools like gouges and V-tools. I initially thought palm tools were mainly for wood turning or bench work, but I've learned they can be quite useful for whittling too. Now, I'm wondering if it's better to buy a complete starter set of palm tools or to select a few essentials and expand my collection gradually. What should I consider when purchasing these tools, and are there any brands I should avoid? Also, if you have any favorite YouTube channels or video tutorials for beginners, I would love your recommendations!

I suggest going for a set, especially if you're just starting out. It's definitely more beneficial to have tools you don't need than to find yourself missing something essential later. Just make sure to pick a set made of proper steel and avoid the really cheap options. Trust me, I learned the hard way—cheap tools won't hold an edge and you'll end up spending more later. Plus, if you don’t have a way to secure your work, your arms will be sore from all the effort!
