Hey everyone! I'm renovating one side of a duplex for my mother-in-law who's moving in soon, and we need to tackle a really sad drop ceiling in one of the bedrooms. The metal frame has some bends and the tiles are definitely past their prime. We're planning to take the entire drop ceiling down and are considering installing beadboard panels as a replacement. We think this could give a nice finished appearance without being too pricey, plus it won't take away from the low ceiling height we have to work with. Has anyone replaced a drop ceiling with beadboard or another material in a similar space? We're after something that's DIY-friendly but also looks great and lasts. I'm open to suggestions like drywall, planks, decorative tiles, etc. I'd love to hear your experiences, see any photos you might have, and learn any tips or pitfalls you've encountered along the way. I ended up going with drywall for my ceiling replacement. Honestly, it was worth every penny for the clean look and durability! Definitely recommend it if you're okay with a bit of extra work.
Make sure to thoroughly check any plumbing or electrical work in the ceiling before permanently installing anything. It's way easier to address those issues before you put up new materials!
My aunt used plastic sheets that mimic the look of old tin ceilings. She just set up a simple frame and nailed them in place; it turned out super nice! That sounds interesting! When you say you set up a basic frame, is it just a wood grid frame you're talking about?
