Hey everyone! I was told this weekend that I could start putting some plants in the ground since spring is here, but I'm unsure if it's really okay to do so. Is it too early to plant? What's the best approach for a newbie like me?

I’m located in Albany, NY, which is a bit north of you, but I've already got carrots, beets, peas, and beans in the ground this weekend. I usually wait until mid to late May for tomatoes and peppers, though, since we often get one last frost in early to mid-May. Folks who plant those too early typically end up scrambling to save their crops, so I’d suggest caution with your warm-weather plants until then.
What exactly are you looking to plant? I'm from Massachusetts, and personally, I don’t put my tomatoes or peppers out until Memorial Day weekend. The overnight temperatures are still around 50°F, with some nights even dropping into the 40s, so I think it’s still a bit early. Plus, the soil needs to warm up more!
I usually do a herb garden with basil, cilantro, parsley, and oregano, plus tomatoes, lettuce, and peppers. I might try a few new things this year, but I'm still thinking about it!
