Start with the most critical areas first—think foundation, roof, and anything structural. Oh, and definitely budget for more than you think; you’ll be grateful you did! With everything going on in the world, prices for materials are soaring right now, so be prepared for that too.
I’m in the midst of my own renovation, and trust me, it can easily become overwhelming. Even hiring a general contractor doesn’t always guarantee top-notch work. Not in San Diego either, but I totally agree with budgeting for more than you think! Also, given the current economic climate, it might be worth considering buying materials upfront and delaying the actual renovations if labor prices drop later on. It could save you some cash!
