I just planted some English lavender in a pot on Saturday and mixed in a lot of horticultural grit for better drainage, but the soil still feels quite wet after watering it in. Should I have avoided watering? Is there anything I can do to help it dry out, or should I just wait and see if it gets better over the next week? I thought I was following the right steps, but now I'm a bit worried!

You did the right thing by watering in your new plants! If a plant can’t handle a little initial watering, it’s probably not meant to be in your garden anyway.
Watering in is generally a good move, especially since it's been so dry lately. The grit you added helps with drainage, which is great. Lavender is pretty drought-resistant, so don’t stress too much about watering in the future. They usually thrive on very little water once they’re established!
