Hey everyone, I'm a newbie here and I'm interested in vinyl wrapping the desktop of my standing desk. I want it to match the oak wood on my PC case for a cohesive look. I'm guessing a straight edge desktop would make the wrapping process easier, and I'm considering picking up some sandpaper and an x-acto knife for precision cutting. I'm also thinking about applying a clear coat for extra durability and shine. Any advice on what to watch out for or what materials I should use?

I would avoid putting a clear coat on top of the wrap. What’s your desktop made of? Is it wood or laminate? Also, is it a rectangular shape or does it have curves? Knowing that can really help with wrapping.
I’m a bit confused as to why you think sandpaper is necessary. Generally, wrapping is best for smooth surfaces; there’s no need to scuff like you would for painting! If you're considering a clear coat, I recommend looking into a ceramic coating that's designed for vinyl wraps instead.
I wrapped my desktop with some vinyl I got off AliExpress for just $5. I used scissors, and aside from a couple of bubbles that I popped with a needle, it turned out great! It's really not too difficult—just start from one side and move to the other. The corners can be a bit tricky, but definitely check out some YouTube tutorials for guidance. You'll do just fine!
A heat gun can be super useful when applying the vinyl! It helps to smooth things out and get it to stick properly. If you don’t have one, a hairdryer works in a pinch since most people have those at home.
