What Are the Best Herbs to Grow for Real Cooking?

I'm starting a small herb garden in my tight apartment backyard, and I really want to focus on herbs that I'll actually use in my cooking. I love the idea of stepping outside to grab fresh herbs, but I don't want to end up with a bunch of plants that just look nice and never make it into my meals. What are your favorite herbs that you find yourself using all the time?

Absolutely go for the herbs you use the most! Personally, I swear by Rosemary, Thyme, Sage, and Chives – your roasted potatoes will thank you for it. Plus, Dill and Cilantro are awesome too, but I have to admit I get bummed when the frost hits and wipes them out.

Chives are super versatile and great for topping potatoes or eggs! I also love Cilantro, but I'll admit I'm not the best at keeping it alive. Basil is a must for Italian dishes, and Rosemary is fantastic on chicken and steak. Plus, it's a hardy plant that doesn’t die too easily!

Basil is a star in my garden because I use it to make homemade pesto, yum! I also grow Mint for tea, Rosemary, and Dill for potatoes and chicken, along with Chives for soups. Fresh ingredients really elevate my meals!
