Are Noise Cancelling AirPods Safe for Hearing Protection While Woodworking?

I've been working with woodworking for a couple of months now, and I've been using noise cancelling AirPods while I work. They let me listen to music when I'm doing less risky tasks like sanding, all while blocking out most of the noise. I'm curious if I should switch back to traditional ear protection instead of relying on my AirPods for hearing safety. What do you all think?

As someone who struggles with severe tinnitus, I can't stress enough how important it is to protect your hearing. Standard hearing protection is a must, not something like AirPods. You'd regret not taking care of your ears!

It's really important to use proper hearing protection, especially in woodworking. Noise cancelling isn't the same as certified hearing protection. Companies like IsoTunes and 3M make Bluetooth headphones that provide actual protection. I've been using IsoTunes for a year, and they work great!

That's good to know! I'll have to check those out.

Noise cancelling on AirPods isn't real hearing protection. They might help a little, but not enough for loud power tools. I use 3M Worktunes for reliable protection while still enjoying music. They fit snugly and keep out the noise far better. You might wanna consider them!

I totally agree! I use my Worktunes at work, and they’re fantastic for music and protection.
