I'm planning to install security window film on my double-paned glass windows and have watched several installation videos. Most of them shown were for single-pane glass where the film was applied to the inside. My question is, for double-paned glass, should I apply the film to the inside layer or the outside layer? I'm concerned about security; if someone tries to break the window, will applying the film on the inside layer help slow them down or attract attention?

From my experience, I just had a pro install security film on my large double-pane windows and they put it on the inside. I think that's pretty standard since it helps protect the film from UV rays and weathering.
You might want to check in with the film manufacturer for their recommendations. The film needs to be specifically designed for double-pane glass, and applying it incorrectly could cause heat buildup and ruin the windows. So, following the brand's instructions is key.
I usually go for the inside installation to ensure the film lasts longer against UV rays and external elements. On the other hand, security film might not hold up against a serious break-in attempt, like if someone uses a hammer. For maximum security, I'd suggest considering more robust options like steel bars.
