I just bought a house, and while getting ready to install a new dishwasher, I discovered some wood rot underneath the old dishwasher. The sellers mentioned a leak four years ago that was supposedly fixed. It looks like they missed cleaning properly afterwards because the wood is black and rotting. I even removed one of the wood panels, and it looks pretty bad underneath. I'm worried about potential damage to the subfloors, too. I've tested for mold, and it came back low, which is good, but I'm not sure what my next steps should be. I've called a few contractors for quotes, but I have no idea what to expect. Any advice would be super helpful!

If the subfloor feels solid and doesn't flex when you walk on it, you might not need to worry too much. Consider taking a closer look by cutting out some of the strip flooring behind the dishwasher. If it's all good, you could just replace the damaged wood with a piece of 3/4" plywood and give it a good varnish to seal it up. Good luck with your repair!
Some of the wood is hard, but others are slightly squishy, so I'm a bit concerned. The basement looks fine, but I'm not sure what's going on between the walls. I appreciate the suggestion about using plywood!
