Hey folks! I'm having a bit of a struggle with my Stanley Smooth Plane. No matter how much I tighten it, the blade tends to slip back after only a few strokes. The part I'm referring to is the tilt lever, which I believe is the depth adjustment screw. It's super frustrating because when it works, it's a joy to use, but I keep finding myself taking off the lever cap after every single pass. Any tips would be hugely appreciated!

Maybe the blade is too thick for the yoke to grip properly? If you’ve installed an aftermarket blade, that could be it. Also, if your plane has a stamped sheet metal yoke, it might need a slight bend to hold that depth adjuster nut more securely.
It sounds like your problem could be tied to how you're adjusting the cutter depth. Make sure you're advancing the blade out of the mouth when you set the depth. This way, the yoke is preloaded on the depth adjuster, avoiding any slop. If you need to back off, go a bit past where you want it, then adjust it back while taking test passes to fine-tune your depth.
Just to clarify, when you mention the tilt lever, are you talking about the lever that fits into the slot of the adjustment knob? If that's the case, check if it slips under the screw properly. It should hold tight when you lever it down.
