Hey everyone! I have a bit of a situation with my new elderly neighbor. She thought her bathroom light fixture had a burnt-out bulb, so I stepped in to help and replaced it, but it still didn't work. Eventually, the landlord replaced the whole fixture, but now he's blaming me and is saying that I broke it by screwing the bulb in too tightly! I've replaced plenty of bulbs, and it seems ridiculous to me. Is it really possible to break a light fixture this way, or is the landlord just trying to shift the blame? Any thoughts on this would be really appreciated!

Honestly, you usually end up breaking the bulb before the socket if you over-tighten. This whole situation seems like a classic case of a landlord trying to dodge responsibility. Sounds like he’s just being difficult for no good reason.
Totally agree! It’s more likely that the fixture was just old and fragile rather than caused by you. If the landlord is trying to blame you for normal wear and tear, that's just unfair! He should be covering those costs, not you or your neighbor!

Technically, yes, but you’d probably snap the bulb before damaging the socket. It's a tough one to prove without dismantling it. Either way, the landlord sounds like he’s picking a fight over nothing and especially with an elderly lady at that!
