How Do You Fund Your Home Improvements?

I'm curious about how everyone is managing to finance their home renovations. I mean, did you pay for it all with cash, use a home equity line, or perhaps have some magical way of funding it? We completely gutted our house, and I've been paying for it all with cash. Two years in, and we're still nowhere near finished!

I got lucky with a fixer-upper and a renovation loan at a low interest rate. We found water damage so we tackled the kitchen and master suite first, which the loan covered. Since then, we’ve been DIYing as much as possible to save costs—about 75% done now, just some bathrooms left!

Planning and saving are key! I usually tackle one room at a time because I like to find deals on materials as I go. It can take me years to finish a project, but I’ve learned to use cash or a little credit for major purchases. It makes the process more manageable.

I like to save up for projects little by little. It can take years, but it's nice to have the cash ready. I even bought materials on sale to save costs—like framing walls over time and hiring help just for the tough parts. Everyone’s process is different, but we took our time and planned out what we could afford.
