Best Options for Safe Battery Storage?

I'm looking for the safest way to store batteries at work and was wondering if any metal box will do the job. We have a mix of filling cabinets—some normal, some fireproof—and network rack mount boxes that we usually end up throwing away. The small fireproof ones are pretty heavy, about 250 pounds, so they're difficult for one person to handle. Would a regular file cabinet be a suitable option?

That's interesting! I've been wondering about the safety of sealed containers for batteries too. If you store lithium batteries in a really tight container, could it potentially cause an explosion? I mean, I know they burn, but I’m not sure how a sealed environment would react to that.

I used to store my R/C LiPo batteries in Army surplus ammo cans. They're strong and provide good protection, plus they're usually pretty affordable if you can find them used or at a surplus store. Just remember to ventilate them, as sealed containers can be risky with lithium batteries—if they catch fire, things could get dangerous!
