Is $13k a Fair Price for Vinyl Siding Replacement?

Hey everyone! I recently received two quotes from the same company for replacing aluminum siding on my house with either vinyl or Hardie board. The job involves removing about 600 sq ft of old clapboard. The quote I got for installing Hardie board is $15,000, while the vinyl option is priced at $13,000. I understand Hardie tends to be pricier, but the vinyl quote feels like an upsell. What do you all think? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! I'm also looking to get more quotes from other contractors.

$13k for 600 sq ft of vinyl? That seems a bit outrageous to me! Is your house just one story?

Yeah, it's actually a two-story, but the first floor is mainly brick and stone. Only the second floor has the aluminum with the old clapboard underneath.

For anything like this, I highly recommend getting at least five bids. I personally love the look of Hardie board and think it’s worth the investment, but definitely keep an eye on the warranty to ensure quality—just don’t make any piercings in the material during installation!

Thanks for the tip! I’m leaning towards Hardie too because it fits the style of my home nicely. I have another contractor coming by tomorrow for a quote.
