Is It Too Late to Replant Basil Seeds This Season?

I'm a newbie in balcony gardening over in eastern Ontario. I had some lovely basil sprouts growing but unfortunately lost them to fertilizer burn (who knew that was even a thing? ?). I still have a packet of basil seeds, and I'm wondering if it's too late in the season to start over. How important is seasonality for indoor gardening?

Nope, you're not too late! If you want to speed things up, grab a cutting from a grocery store basil. Just root it in a glass of water. By the way, it's super exciting that you're trying propagation with other plants too!

You're doing great on this learning journey! You can replant seeds anytime if you're gardening indoors. I'd actually suggest buying a potted basil plant from the grocery store. You can eat a good portion of it and then plant the rest. It'll give you a head start compared to seeds.

Not too late at all—just replant! You'll have fresh basil in no time!

I just planted some basil seeds this week in Manitoba, and it's been going well! So don’t worry, you’re still in the clear.

It's definitely not too late! You can actually do successive planting all summer long. Just check the harvest dates on your seed packet; basil grows pretty quickly, so you should be good to go.
