M12 vs M18 Impact Wrench: Which One Should I Get for My Camper?

Hey everyone! I'm new here but have been lurking for a while. So, we recently got a camper and are planning to travel more this year. I want to prepare an emergency kit just in case we get a flat tire while on the road. From what I've read, the M12 Fuel Stubby 3/8 Impact Wrench (model 2562-20) seems like it would do the trick for changing the RV tire but I'm wondering if it'd also be versatile enough for some DIY home projects. I don't often work on cars, but I'd love to know if this wrench can handle the lug nuts on my Ford F150. I'm considering getting a breaker bar as a backup, but I can't find information about whether the M12 can work with those lug nuts. Also, I haven't started my socket set yet. I appreciate any insights you all might have!

Hey! So, regarding the lug nuts, keep in mind that some of those can be really tight, especially if they were put on with a bigger impact wrench. I had this experience years ago where I struggled with some lug nuts on the side of the road and almost snapped a stud!

Sounds like a common story! I had my own struggle with a 1989 Dodge Sundance — those lug nuts were a nightmare. Reminds me of my dad's old Gremlin too!

If you’re leaning towards something small and effective, go for the M12 3/8 model (2563-20). It’s compact yet powerful enough to handle most scenarios, even rusty wheels! Plus, they have tons of other handy tools that could complement your camper kit.

I just picked up an M12 Stubby 1/2 Impact (model 2563-20). With a 5.0 battery, it's perfect for changing my tires, and I still use a breaker bar just in case. It's great for my needs!

The M12 Gen 2 Stubby is great! However, if you want peak performance, use it with a 5.0HO battery. The M18 series performs well too, so whichever pops up on sale, grab it! You really can’t go wrong with any of those options for lug nuts. And make sure you check out Harbor Freight for budget-friendly socket sets.
