What’s the best way to remove a plant from its pot without making a mess?

I've been trying to figure out how to take my plants out of their pots without all the soil crumbling apart. I see so many videos showing perfectly molded plants with their roots and soil still shaped like the pot, but when I try it, everything just falls apart in a mess! Even my rootbound plants don't cooperate. Is there a certain technique I should be using?

Yeah, those perfect results usually come from root-bound plants. If your plant is tightly packed, it'll hold its shape much better when you pop it out. But if the roots are loose, it's less likely to come out that cleanly.

Honestly, there's no magic trick here. If you're worried about the soil going everywhere, try removing the plant over a tray to catch the loose dirt. It’ll save you from cleaning up a huge mess afterward!

Right? A truly root-bound plant is usually a solid mass of roots and should come out easily without falling apart too much. I tend to repot my plants yearly based on their growth, but I just use a beach towel beneath to catch any soil that spills out—makes for easy cleanup!

That's a clever idea with the towel! I’ll have to try that next time.
