How do I deal with my neighbor’s trees blocking sunlight?

I've got a bit of a situation here. My neighbor's trees are really blocking a lot of sunshine from hitting my home and garden. I've thought about asking them nicely to have the trees topped, but I've heard they have a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) on them. What can I actually do about this?

It seems like chatting with your neighbor is the best start. If there's a TPO, they might need to get a tree surgeon involved to handle any trimming, but it's still a good idea to bring it up with them first. Just be aware that there might be some costs associated with that process.

Honestly, topping a tree can be really harmful to its health. It might be worth considering other options before going down that route.

Have you thought about just installing some better lighting in your garden? It might help compensate for the lack of sunlight.
