Why does my dishwasher still have power after I turned off all the breakers?

I'm having a tough time replacing our dishwasher because I want to make sure the power is safely off before I start. I went through every single breaker in the house, including the big ones for HVAC and the water heater, and flipped them all off at once. Despite this, my dishwasher still has power! I'm not sure what else to do. Should I call my power company for help with shutting off power to the whole house? Any advice would be appreciated!

Do you live in a duplex or a unit that shares walls? Sometimes there are hidden switches or plugs near the dishwasher that could keep it powered. Be sure to check under cabinets or in lower areas where it might be tucked away! My electrician husband mentioned this, so it’s good to double-check!

If you really turned off every breaker, including the main one, and it’s still running, then you might have a different panel somewhere else you're not aware of. It’s not unheard of for houses to have subpanels or separate breakers that control specific sections or appliances like the dishwasher. Make sure to keep looking around!

It sounds like you might be missing a main breaker. Most homes have a larger breaker at the top that turns off power to the entire house. Check there, and if you don’t see it, it might be located external to the house near the meter. That could be the key!

Yeah, I've seen that too. Sometimes the main shutoff is in a weird spot! Definitely worth checking outside.
