Hey everyone! My potato plant has recently bloomed, and to my surprise, it produced some berries. I'm wondering if I need to let these berries ripen before collecting the seeds from them. I'd appreciate any advice or tips you might have about this process!

You should definitely let the berries stay on the plant for as long as possible. Once they’re ready, you can squeeze the seeds into a jar of water and let them soak for a couple of days. After soaking, dry them on a paper grocery bag for a bit. Just a heads up, there might be a smell during this process! I’ve been through this a couple of times, but my results have been pretty similar each time. Good luck with your berries! ?
It's interesting to note that potatoes aren’t typically grown from seeds for a reason. Some people actually remove the flowers to focus the plant's energy on growing tubers instead. If you're curious about seed production, though, just make sure to leave the berries on the plant to ripen before harvesting the seeds!

For true potato seeds, I usually browse Cultivariable.com. They have some excellent articles on the importance of seeds for genetic diversity and disease prevention. Plus, I've sprouted a few varieties from them this year, and they’ve turned out great!
