Looking for Alternatives to a Noisy Power Router

Hey everyone! I've been using a Makita router for some projects, but honestly, I'm really not a fan. It's super loud, creates a lot of dust, and I often end up with scorch marks on the wood that require sanding afterward. I'm wondering if there's a hand tool out there that can replace the 32-40mm bit for making shallow circular cuts. I've thrown in the towel on making simple pen holders because dealing with the power router is just too much for me. Any suggestions?

Totally feel you on how unpleasant routers can be! Have you thought about trying a small scraper? If your cuts don't need to be too deep, it should do the trick without much hassle. Another tool you might consider is a rounded convex chisel; it could work well for your needs!

If you just need to cut circles, think about using a bell saw to create a kerf, and then you can clean up the inside with a chisel or even a router. If you're aiming for a perfectly flat and smooth bottom, glue some sandpaper to the end of a dowel for finishing touches. It's a simple but effective way to get a nice surface!

That sounds like a clever idea! I really like the thought of using sandpaper on a dowel.
