Hey everyone! I'm building a pretty large gazebo and I've chosen to use steel shingles for the roof. My rafters are made from 6x6 pressure-treated lumber, and I'm using 3/4-inch plywood for the sheathing. I'm wondering if I really need to use a waterproof membrane underneath the shingles since it's just a gazebo. Is that something necessary for structures like these, or is it mainly for houses that are enclosed and heated? I'd appreciate any insights!

I’m with you on this one! I’ve decided to go for the membrane just to be on the safe side. Better safe than sorry, right?
One thing to note is that if you're pulling any permits, it's best to check with your inspector about their requirements. Also, remember that if you deviate from the manufacturer's install specifications, it could affect your warranty—just something to keep in mind!
You generally don't need a membrane if your rafters and sheathing are open to the air. As long as there’s good airflow, moisture should dry out naturally. It's more of a concern in enclosed, conditioned spaces.

I was thinking the same! Just wanted to be sure before I go ahead.
