I'm considering making some wooden fishing nets, but I'm unsure if they require any special treatment to make sure they don't deteriorate over time. I've heard that resin treatments can help prevent issues like delamination due to moisture, but I'm not keen on going that route or paying for complex options. I saw a raw wood net at Orvis that looked solid. If all I need to do is bend and laminate it, I'm ready to dive in! Or would a simple oil or finish work instead?

Using either epoxy or a good wood glue like TB-III will work well for you. Then seal the wood with a marine varnish to protect it from water. They’re made to handle wet conditions, but remember, it’s not like they’ll be in water 24/7 like a boat would be!
Definitely, any wooden net that will see a lot of water exposure should have some kind of finish to ensure it lasts. While resin options are super durable, there are simpler finishes you can use. Just keep in mind that they might require a bit more upkeep over time.
