Should I Be Worried About Stings from a Thorny Plant?

Hey everyone, I've been clearing out a giant hedge-bush in my garden, and I accidentally got stung by some thick, thorny stalks that I believe might be from a rose plant. About 30 hours ago, I got a few puncture wounds on my hand, and while I was initially okay, my hand is now stiff, painful, and leaking some fluid. I haven't found much info online about whether these thorn barbs can be dangerous, so I'm starting to worry. Should I see a doctor? I'm located in the south of the UK and not really experienced with gardening.

Honestly, for puncture wounds like what you've got, it’s a good idea to head to a doctor for a tetanus shot and maybe some antibiotics. The last thing you want is an infection!

Those thorns are usually harmless, but they can carry tetanus. If your vaccinations aren't up to date, visiting a doctor would be the best option. Don’t wait too long if things get worse!

I appreciate the advice! I might have trouble getting an appointment, but I’ll try my best.

You definitely need to think about getting some antibiotics. Those thorns can carry dirt and bacteria, so it’s better to be safe. When was the last time you got your tetanus shot?

I think it was back in secondary school—I'm 35 now! I’ve had some healthcare shots, but not sure about the tetanus. That might be worth checking!
