Hey everyone! I'm curious about staining polished granite countertops. I've been wondering if an oil-based wood stain would actually work on granite and if the application process would be similar to how you would stain wood. If wood stain isn't feasible, what are some ways I could darken or change the tone of my polished granite? Thanks a bunch! 🙂

There's really no effective way to stain granite like you would with wood. However, if you're looking to darken it a bit, you could try stripping it with a solvent and then applying a product like Tenax Ager. After it dries completely, don’t forget to reseal it! But just a heads-up, you can't change a lighter color to something dramatically darker—like turning cream-colored granite to brown, that's not gonna happen!
Have you thought about using paint instead? Who cares what the naysayers think, do what makes you happy! Just remember, it's a bold move, so maybe test it out first on a small area or a sample piece before going all in!
Nope, wood stains won’t work on granite! The whole idea behind granite is that it's non-porous and doesn't stain easily. So, if you're looking to change the color, you'll have a tough time with stains. It's best to forget that route.

Thanks, DIYMaster77! I appreciate the info. I'll have to look into Tenax Ager. Sounds like I need to manage my expectations with color changes!
