I'm working on a backyard project to create a grilling station that will have a kamado smoker set on cement blocks, as well as drawers and cabinets for my grilling and smoking supplies. I'm trying to decide on the materials to use. The basic frame will be made of 2x4s, but I'm looking for recommendations for the exposed wood. I'm considering cedar due to its weather resistance, but I'm concerned about how it handles mild heat and spills from oils and sauces. Whatever finish I choose must be food safe. I also need the grill station to withstand the weather since I can't put a roof or pergola over it. Additionally, I plan to add a large hardwood cutting and prep board. Has anyone tackled a similar project or have suggestions on materials?

MDO plywood is an excellent choice for outdoor cabinets! Just make sure to use Titebond 3 for any glue-ups you do; it's great for exterior use. It’ll hold up well against the elements.
I built a table for my Big Green Eggs 30 years ago using solid teak and brass screws, and it’s been zero maintenance ever since! However, I’d advise against outdoor drawers; they can get really messy and wear out faster. And yeah, finding teak can be tricky nowadays; it’s not as readily available as it used to be.
