I'm looking to build a large paver patio and I'm considering using Brock Paverbase. However, I visited a store and was taken aback by its price – around $1000 for 300 sq ft, and it's essentially just foam sheets. While I get that the grooves and holes are important for functionality, I'm curious if I could achieve similar results with a different material and some DIY adjustments. Has anyone had experience with this product and can share pros and cons? What might be some good alternatives?

I used Brock Paverbase for a 60-foot walkway and it worked really well for a few seasons. I found the best price at Menards. It definitely saved me time and effort with installation, which was a plus!
Yeah, it does seem pricey compared to crushed concrete. However, it allows for a shallower gravel base which might save you some money in the long run, according to the numbers they provide.
I used it in the Midwest, and while it claims to replace a 4-inch base, I found that wasn't enough for my area. The prep work is crucial, and it ended up feeling a bit squishy, so I might have to redo it sooner than expected.
