What’s Blocking My Peephole and How Can I Fix It?

Hey everyone! I've got this old door with a peephole, but there's some kind of device inside that prevents me from using it. I'm not sure what it is, and I also can't seem to remove the peephole itself. I've tried prying and twisting it, but it's just not moving. Any ideas on what might be blocking it and what tools or methods I could use to get it out?

It sounds like a part inside may have broken, which sometimes happens with older doors. The way to remove it really depends on what kind of door and peephole you have, but replacing it might be the best option if you can’t get it out.

Have you attempted to remove the peephole itself? It’s possible that whatever is blocking it was inserted behind the outer part. You might be able to access it that way!

You could try drilling it out if you’re comfortable with that. Sometimes brute force is the best way to get things moving. Just be prepared to replace the peephole afterwards.
