How Long Should My Grounding Rod Be for a 100W Solar Panel?

I'm setting up a solar panel system and I'm curious about the grounding requirements. Does the length of my grounding rod change based on how much power my panel generates? I have a single 100-watt panel and my local codes say I need a grounding rod that's between 4 to 12 feet long. Considering my soil is compact clay and the region experiences high humidity as well as summer droughts, how do I decide whether to go for a longer or shorter grounding rod?

Honestly, you don't need to stress too much. Just put the rod in the ground; even 4 feet should be enough. If they dig it up and question you, they'll see it's deep enough. It's a pretty low-maintenance requirement for that wattage.

For a 100-watt panel, going for a longer grounding rod is a good idea, around 8 feet should do the trick. If digging straight down is a hassle, you can even bury it sideways. Just make sure to meet your local code requirements!
