What’s the best way to shorten a wooden rod by a quarter?

I'm working on a sideboard project and I need to cut one quarter of the length off a wooden rod to make it align perfectly with a board. What's the easiest way to go about this? Should I just fix it down and use a router, or is there a simpler method? I don't currently have a router, but I'm open to getting one if necessary.

You might try securing the rod and then using a table saw. If you can set up a corner from straight boards and tape the ends, it could give you a clean cut. Just be cautious while adjusting the blade height if you're doing it this way!

Are you sure you just mean chopping a quarter off the total length? Because if that's the case, a router is way overkill. If you're aiming to flatten a side, then you could definitely be talking about removing thickness instead which would need a different approach.

If the rod isn't too thick, a hand saw should do the trick! Cutting a quarter of the length off isn't complicated, just make sure to measure carefully and take your time. You can totally pull this off without fancy tools.

Thanks for that! I was overthinking it. Just a simple cut sounds easier.

You'd be surprised how simple it can be, really!
