I'm curious about the idea of intentionally planting dandelions. I know that many people consider them weeds, but in my area, they're crucial for bees' food supply until around mid-April. Most neighbors pull them from their yards, but I'm wondering if I could grow them in a container and cut them down before they go to seed, so they won't spread and bother anyone. We have a garden, but we're really lacking pollinators even though we have other flowers. I just want to support the bees without upsetting my neighbors. Any thoughts on this?

I personally love dandelions for their versatility. You can eat them too! But if you're looking for alternatives, maybe try encouraging violets or look into other early bloomers that could attract bees without causing trouble with your neighbors.
It's great that you want to support bees! However, keep in mind that dandelions are actually not native to the U.S. and might not be the best option. Instead, consider planting native flowers that can provide the bees with better nutrition. They’re usually more effective for supporting local pollinator populations!
While dandelions do offer some nectar, their pollen quality isn't that great for bees. A lawn full of dandelions is better than a weed-free one, but having a diverse garden with various flowers is a far better choice. If you’re really into early blooms, consider planting fruit trees or other flowering plants that are more beneficial.
