I'm thinking about starting a vegetable garden in the sunniest spot in my yard, which happens to be right next to my HVAC unit. I've heard that HVAC professionals recommend keeping at least 2-3 feet of space around the unit for proper airflow and to maintain the system's health. Is it okay to plant my veggies that close? Are there any risks of chemical leaks from the HVAC that could affect my garden?

Listen to the HVAC pros — it’s a risk to plant right up against it. If you keep within the recommended distance, your garden should be fine. Just be mindful about trimming any plants that might grow too close to the unit.
While it’s possible for HVAC units to leak chemicals, you’ll usually notice it because the system won't cool your home properly. Keep an eye on that. The bigger concern is ensuring you don’t obstruct the airflow, as HVAC units work best with good circulation. It’s best to stay at least 3 feet away from the unit when planting.
