Should I Cover My New Granite Countertops with Plastic Film?

Hey everyone! I'm remodeling my kitchen soon and will be installing granite countertops. After doing some research, I've noticed that light-colored granite can stain easily. I'm considering using plastic film for protection, which I can find cheap online, or hiring a service for a professional installation. Has anyone tried this? What were your experiences? I'm especially worried about using the surface for food prep—like making dough or chopping vegetables. Is there a risk of plastic particles getting into my food? And can I still put hot pots on it?

Honestly, there's no need to cover your granite. The only thing you should really be doing is sealing it every year. Why would you want to cover that beautiful stone with plastic? It's like wrapping your couch in plastic—just not necessary!

You really shouldn’t be chopping directly on the countertop anyway! It's better to use a cutting board. Sure, some people might do it, but for food safety, it’s not the best idea. Also, granite is great for baking; go ahead and mix dough right on it, just don’t try to cover it in plastic.

Totally agree! If it were just baking, no problem, but I understand others might use it differently—it’s hard to control what everyone does.

Granite is super durable. Just a yearly seal and keeping an eye on spills will keep it looking great. Trust me, putting plastic on it will make you regret it later—it’s like putting that awful plastic on a couch. Just let it shine!

I remember those plastic couches from my grandma's house! When she finally took it off, it was gross. Very true about plastic—it does more harm than good!
