I was trying to set up some shade for my garden in anticipation of a scorching heatwave tomorrow, but I accidentally dropped a heavy wooden block into my garden bed. Thankfully, it didn't hit any plants directly, but it did impact the roots and displace some stakes, causing a few garden cages to collapse and snap some of my bush beans. I even noticed one of my eggplants has dropped its flower after the incident. Is there anything I can do to salvage my garden? Are vegetable plants tough enough to withstand some rough handling? I'm feeling pretty frustrated for not just leaving things as they were for the heat. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I feel your pain! I once put up a makeshift tarp that didn’t do much good. Here’s a pic of it – it’s not ideal! Just be careful with the shading, as you don’t want to completely block the sun.
Most vegetable plants are resilient and can bounce back from incidents like this, as long as you didn’t break any stems. I suggest looking into some durable shade cloth that you can leave in place permanently to avoid similar issues in the future.
Yeah, if it blocks all sunlight, that could be a problem for your plants!
