Should I Block My Dormer Vents for a Gable Attic Fan?

I'm considering installing a gable attic fan to help cool my home and reduce my reliance on A/C. Currently, I have four soffit vents and five dormer vents, but I'm worried about how these will work together. Specifically, would blocking my dormer vents and putting in gable vents improve air flow for the fan? I live in Colorado, and a friend nearby swears by their gable fan's effectiveness, so I'm curious about the best approach.

In Colorado, if you're not seeing a lot of melting or icicles on your roof, it's likely your insulation is doing its job. Proper ventilation can help extend the life of your shingles, but if you're looking at bigger cooling needs, consider checking your insulation first. A FLIR thermal camera can be super useful to spot any heat leaks in your attic!

I hadn't thought about that! A thermal camera sounds like a solid idea.
