I recently bought an M18 FUEL 18V 16 in. Brushless Cordless String Trimmer from Home Depot. Right out of the box, I noticed a problem: when I insert the battery, the trimmer doesn't seem to operate. The lights on the handle glow, but pulling the trigger does nothing. Interestingly, if I first use the battery in another tool like a drill or leaf blower and then put it back in the trimmer, it works fine, but I have to repeat this process each time. Does anyone have an idea why this happens? Is there a way for me to fix it? And will Milwaukee honor the warranty? Also, can I still return it to Home Depot even though I tossed out the packaging?

If you're still within the return period at Home Depot, I recommend just returning it. If you encounter issues straight out of the box, it's best not to wait too long. This way, you won't have to deal with possible repairs later.
What kind of battery are you using? A lot of folks have had similar issues with different M18 batteries. From what you've described, it sounds like it might just need a quick wake-up by using it in another tool first. You might want to check if the batteries are all working properly on other devices. It's pretty common!
