I have an overhead board that I need to cut but I'm having trouble reaching it. Would it be safe to tape down the trigger on my circular saw and throw it at the ceiling to make the cut?

Nah, it’s not really a good idea. Even if you think it might work, the saw could come loose during the toss or cause a dangerous mishap. Just use a safer cutting method!
Throwing a circular saw at the ceiling is definitely not a safe move! You could lose control, and the tape might not hold. It's safer to find a way to reach the board properly or use a ladder instead.
