I have a fenced backyard where I let my two large dogs roam around freely. However, my husky has a knack for finding ways to dig under the fence and escape. Despite my efforts to patch up the fence, she continues to impress us with her escape skills. I'm looking for plant suggestions that can grow along the fence and help keep her in. Ideally, these plants should be pet-friendly, preferably non-thorny, hardy in zone 5b, and I'd love to support native species. I'm not looking for typical privacy plants—I'm open to more unique options. Bonus points if the plants can spread easily along the fenceline, perhaps through seeds!

I totally get you! My German Shepherd puppy loves to dig too! I found that pinning wire mesh flat against the ground along the base of my fence works great. It discourages digging while still allowing plants to grow up through it! It creates a no-dig zone that helps keep the fence secure.

That sounds like a smart idea! We tried it in some areas with good results but haven't managed to do the whole fence yet due to busy schedules. I hope to get to it when we can!
