What Should I Use to Replace My Old Masonite Siding?

I've learned that Masonite siding isn't being produced anymore, and I need to replace about 100 feet of it in various spots on my house. Does anyone know of a product that would blend well and not look awful? Honestly, I can't stand Masonite—who thought using cardboard for siding was a good idea?

Masonite is definitely out of production, but fiber cement siding is available and pretty popular now. Definitely check out a local lumber yard over a big store; they'll have better options and insight into what works best for replacements.

I had Masonite on my last house too, and it’s just the worst. You might want to look into wood or PVC clapboard; those could match your existing siding nicely.

I swapped my Masonite for Hardy board, and honestly, I can't believe how much better it looks! Just a heads up, you'll need to drill nail holes in the Hardy boards, or they might crack. But they're great for heat insulation, and they look nice!

For a similar look, I found a profile of smooth Hardie Plank that matched my old Masonite siding perfectly. Just a tip if you're replacing larger sections.

You actually don't need to drill holes with Hardie boards; they have a design that works without it.
