The walls are unfinished wood, so I don't think there's asbestos, unless they somehow used it in the shingles. I've tested the exterior paint, and it contains lead, which is chipping off. I'm wondering if it's worth it to handle the demolition myself or if I should just pay $5,000 for a professional team to take care of the lead abatement and removal with an inspector. Is lead only a concern for kids? I'd definitely use a P100 respirator while doing any demo. Also, I assume I need a permit and should maybe inform my neighbors? What do you all think?

Just so you know, roofs with shingles from back in the day often contained asbestos for added durability and fire resistance, up until the 1970s. If you decide to go the DIY route, definitely wear a good mask! But honestly, considering the lead paint and your garage's condition, getting pros to handle it might save you some stress.
