Should I Replace or Rekey My Sliding Glass Door Lock?

Asked By User1234!@# On

I just moved into a new house and I'm dealing with the sliding glass door lock, which looks pretty old. I'm not sure if I should look for a replacement lock or just rekey it. Is it better to contact Pella for a specific replacement, or can I use a generic cylinder instead? I'm a bit lost on what my options are. Thanks for any help!

It sounds like you're in a bit of a pickle with that old lock! If it's not working properly or you just want peace of mind, I recommend replacing it entirely, especially since it’s the sliding glass door. You can contact Pella for a lock that matches, but you might also find a suitable generic lock at your local hardware store.

Thanks for the tip! I'll start with the hardware store and see what they have.

Definitely check local stores too! Sometimes you can find good deals on locks that fit just as well.

Rekeying might be a cheaper option, but if the lock looks old and worn, replacing it could be safer. It’s better not to take any chances with security, especially in a new home. Plus, a new lock could give you updated features too!

Great points! I’ll weigh both options.

Exactly! A new lock can offer better security. Always a good idea to prioritize safety.
