What Can I Do to Keep My Cats Away from My Toxic Plants?

Asked By CuriousCat123 On

I've received a lot of plants as gifts, and unfortunately, many of them are toxic or unsafe for my cats. My cat, Sophie, particularly loves to nibble on my Albuca Spiralis and keeps trying to munch on my Haworthiopsis attenuata. I recently got a peace lily, which I know is also not safe, and I'm really worried about her getting sick. How can I keep her away from my plants?

Just a heads up, peace lilies can be pretty toxic for cats. You might want to consider rehoming it instead of risking an accidental nibble. I've got a few plants that aren't great for my cat either, but I've learned my lesson with certain types like dieffenbachias. Better safe than sorry!

I did put the peace lily on a high shelf with no access, but I didn't know what a dieffenbachia is. I'll check it out!

Try hanging your plants from the ceiling or a curtain rod; that way, if there aren't any nearby surfaces, your cat won't be able to jump to them!

Great idea! I'm a stay-at-home mom, so I can't always run out for supplies, but I love this suggestion.

One effective way is to keep your plants in terrariums. They look great and provide a safe space for your plants that your cat can't reach!

Are there specific terrariums meant just for plants? I'd love to know more!

So, like a fish tank but for plants? That's a cool idea!

Honestly, the best method is to keep them behind a door that your cat can't open. It's the safest way to make sure they can't get to the plants.

My cat is so sneaky! I find her in my room even when I'm super careful to keep the door shut.
