Advice on Getting Started as a Gardener: What Works Best?

Hey everyone! I recently made the leap from a finance career to becoming a gardener ?. So far, I've received some great 5-star reviews from clients and I'm trying to figure out the best ways to promote my new business. I've set up ads on Google, Facebook, and Instagram, with some initial success from a Google search. I've also distributed 200 flyers, but the response has been kind of slow. I'm curious – from your experiences, which advertising methods have brought you the most clients? I'm considering creating a profile on Check a Trade, but I'm not sure how effective that would be since I might start at the bottom of their list. Any advice or tips would be incredibly helpful!

As a fellow gardener with 11 years in the game, I totally feel you. My main source of work has been through flyers as well. I tried Google Ads but it honestly didn’t bring much bang for my buck. Same with Facebook; my clients aren’t really hanging out there.

Focus on identifying your ideal clients and target your marketing where they’re likely to be. For some free publicity, think about signing up for the Gardener's Guild – it only costs around £50 a year and it can open doors to new clients.

Hey! I’m also new to running my own business (interior design) and I totally get how tough it can be. Here are some tips that might help:
- Chat to everyone you know – friends, family, and even your gym buddies! You never know who might need a gardener.
- Make a digital flyer to showcase your services and any special offers, then share it on social media. Ask your friends to help spread the word too.
- Reach out to local businesses like real estate agents or contractors; they might know clients looking for gardening help.
- Instead of just dropping flyers, try door-to-door pitches! People often overlook flyers unless they get a personal touch.
- And hey, you can always ask ChatGPT for more marketing ideas if you’re stuck!

Just a thought, but a great platform to check out is Nextdoor! I've had a lot of success getting clients from there after a few positive reviews. The key really is to do excellent work; word of mouth will help you build a solid client base. Save your cash for quality tools instead of too much advertising! Just make sure your online profiles clearly showcase what you offer.
