Why is my toilet tank refilling so quickly?

Hey everyone! I own a workplace and I've encountered a frustrating issue in the bathroom. The toilet doesn't flush properly unless you hold the handle down, which confuses a lot of our clients. I've checked the chain and it seems fine, but I noticed that the fill mechanism starts letting water back into the tank before it's completely empty. The flush itself works well enough, as water flows into the bowl powerfully and quickly. Do I need to replace the fill mechanism, or should I look into adjusting the water inlet? Any ideas on how to resolve this would be greatly appreciated!

Is this a high-efficiency toilet? I've found that those typically use about a third of the tank’s water. To be sure the fill rate isn't affecting things, you could turn off the water supply and flush to see how it drains. Some toilets just have poor flush performance. If you find it's not draining fully even when empty, it might just be a case of a less effective toilet.

Haha, it does use about a third of the tank. I tried the water-off test, and it drained fully! But maybe it doesn’t have to empty completely to be effective. Like I said, I’m leaning towards getting a new flapper!

Sounds like the flapper valve is your main issue! If you have to hold the handle down, it's usually because the flapper isn't sealing properly. I'd recommend picking up a new flapper and giving it a shot. It's a cheap fix and could solve your problem!

Yeah, I'm on it! If nothing else, we'll just have a fresh flapper for a few bucks!
