Hey folks! I'm new to wood carving and planning to make some tea cups. I'm considering using a multitool for this project, but I'm wondering if I should invest in a dedicated wood carving blade instead. Will using the multitool blade damage it, or is it normal use to just dull it over time and sharpen it like usual? Any insights would be appreciated!

Using a dedicated blade for wood carving is definitely recommended mainly for reasons like edge geometry and safety. Sure, a multitool blade can work, but it’s not the best – it usually has a weaker edge and may not hold up well over time. Plus, fixed blades are safer since they don’t have moving parts that might fail during use. I once had a bad accident with a folding blade that couldn’t handle the job!
