How to Identify the Source of Water in My Finished Basement?

After a heavy rain this week, I've noticed a significant amount of water on the floor of our finished basement. At first, I thought it was leaking in through the window, which has a window well, since a few kid toys that are a couple of feet off the ground were wet, along with the surrounding area. However, when I checked the window ledge, it's completely dry—like, cobwebs and dust kind of dry. Is it possible that the water is still coming from the window, or could it be originating from somewhere else entirely? I've inspected the ceiling tiles and they're all dry. What steps can I take to pinpoint the source of the water?

Have you thought about sharing some pictures of the window well—both inside and outside? Also, when you mentioned that the kid toys were wet, do you mean they soaked up the water or is it just sitting on top? It could give us a better idea of what's going on.

I’ll grab some tonight! The tops of the toys are wet, but the sides are dry. Plus, the area rug has soaked up a ton of water—it's squelching when you walk on it!

It’s possible that the water is coming up from the ground due to hydrostatic pressure. Sometimes, even if things seem dry at first, water can collect and seep in from below the surface. You might want to check for that too!

That was my husband's initial guess, but I’m confused about how the top of a plastic dollhouse that stands 4 feet tall would get wet if that's the case.
