Should I Trust a Phone Quote from a Contractor?

I'm looking to get some work done on my property and there's one contractor who is offering to give me a quote over the phone instead of coming to see the job in person. The work might be quite involved due to some water damage, and although he has decent reviews, I'm feeling a bit uneasy about this approach. Is it a red flag if a contractor prefers to quote without assessing the site first?

It's a mixed bag. Many contractors are over it when it comes to free quotes because people often just shop around. However, you definitely want someone to see your project, especially if there's water damage involved. Some skilled contractors can give rough estimates over the phone if they feel they know the job really well, but I'd suggest pushing for an on-site quote to ensure they are serious and to get a better idea of costs.

That makes total sense!
